Everyone loves a good Negroni, and everyone loves Bourbon, so it’s no surprise that somehow the two would find a place together in one drink. This is called the Boulevardier, and it first came around in the 1927 book Barflies and Cocktails by Harry McElhone. While the gin-based Negroni stands out as a good all-season sipper, this drink has a darker, spicier taste that fits perfectly into autumn.
Ingredients:
- 1 part bourbon – in my case Larceny bourbon.
- 1 part Campari
- 1 part sweet vermouth
If you want to experiment you can always use Punt E Mes instead of sweet vermouth, which is what I usually do to Negronis when I’m looking for more of a punch. The ratio is also variable to taste – I’ve seen it as much as 2 parts bourbon to 1/2 part vermouth, but let’s not go overboard! Mix and serve on the rocks with a twist of orange as a garnish.
