This has been the week of mezcal because Vago’s Elote mezcal is just that delicious. It’s hard to find mezcal in this part of NC, mostly because the state liquor stores are stocked at the county level, and people around here have yet to fall in love with good mezcal.
Drinks like the Division Bell will help pave the mezcal road, it looks great and tastes even better. It’s not nearly as smoky or spicy as the last two drinks, and is probably the second most accessible cocktail I could make with mezcal for the masses. This cocktail is easily sweetened with some simple syrup, or you could add an herb twist by muddling some mint, sage, or rosemary before combining all ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 1 oz Mezcal Vago Elote
- 3/4 oz Aperol
- 1/2 oz Luxardo Maraschino
- 3/4 oz lime juice
- Garnish with orange or grapefruit twist
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and shake with ice. Crush ice in your preferred glass, and strain over the ice. Garnish with an orange or grapefruit twist.
