Recently my eyes were opened to new liqueurs, amari, and a whole host of other delicious ingredients that can be used to round out the flavors of some awesome cocktails. Fernet Branca is just one of these, but it is definitely one of the more distinct flavors – combining amaro with menthol that can come off strong and overbearing. Rather than hide the strong flavors behind other competing drinks I put it up front in this concoction. I think it turned out great, although if you can’t stand Fernet for any reason, then this probably isn’t for you!
- 1 oz Fernet Branca
- 1 oz Campari
- 1/2 oz Blood Orange juice
- 1 oz Gin (I used Sutler’s)
- 2 sprigs of Rosemary
To make this, I muddled rosemary, then added all the other ingredients and shook over ice. After straining, I garnished with a slice of blood orange and a sprig of rosemary. Let me know what you think!
